People Engagement Lead
Role title:
People Engagement Lead
Description:
Want a meaningful career where you can make a difference in people's lives? We're on a mission to provide the best care and quality of life for older adults - and we need your energy, skills, and creativity!
At Sage Eldercare Solutions, we're setting the standard for excellence in senior care. Forget stuffy offices and rigid rules - we're a fast-paced, close-knit group who support each other and get creative to help create the best outcomes for our clients.
Since 2001, we've made it our goal to enhance quality of life through understanding clients' unique needs. Our team of nurses, social workers, and gerontologists act as advocates, counselors, and problem solvers to address physical, social, and emotional well-being. We have art, music, and recreational therapists who enrich the quality of our clients' lives. And we have care providers who bring amazing passion and attention to detail to their work along with a team of dedicated home care managers who support them and help them shine.
This role is eligible for on-site or hybrid work. You will be expected to work in our Burlingame office at least one day a week.
About the Team:
You'll be joining a team of four, deeply integrated with all service areas of Sage Eldercare Solutions and The Hummingbird Project. Our team is heart-driven and passionate about both the quality of life we provide to employees and the excellence in the work we do. As the champion of employee engagement and manager development, you'll play a pivotal role in driving initiatives that position Sage as an employer of choice.
Important Note:
This role includes providing maternity coverage for our People Operations Lead, with leave planned for December 2025 timeframe and potentially lasting 12 months (subject to change). You will spend your first 30 days training with our People Operations Lead to learn critical processes, then assume coverage responsibilities across both employee engagement and operational functions while building comprehensive people programs. We will create a detailed 12-month roadmap to strategically prioritize your focus areas during this period and beyond.
We’re looking for someone adaptable who’s comfortable flexing between employee-facing engagement and operational HR tasks.
While the Director is your thought partner, you will be at the helm of creating exceptional employee experiences and ensuring operational excellence in every aspect of our people programs.
What you'll do:
Employee Relations & Support:
- Serve as primary support for managers and employees on performance, conduct, and workplace issues
- Coach managers through difficult conversations and lead employee relations investigations

- Own onboarding experience for both semi-monthly and (Personal Care Attendant) PCA employees
- Design employee engagement programs, recognition initiatives, and culture events
- Coordinate leave administration (FMLA, disability, personal leave) and benefits enrollment support
HR Operations & Compliance:
- Manage benefits administration - open enrollment, vendor relationships, and compliance reporting
- Ensure regulatory compliance - EEOC filings, ACA reporting, COBRA, Workers Compensation management
- Document policies, maintain Employee Handbook, and coordinate required training programs
Systems & Communications:
- Support HRIS functions, payroll-benefits integration, and process improvement initiatives
- Own People Ops communications - draft plans, send employee emails, and present at company all hands
- Design and administer employee satisfaction surveys; lead action planning with leadership
Culture & Community:
- Champion continuous learning, DEI initiatives, and employee resource groups
- Partner with Director on culture strategy and wellness programs aligned with whole-person care
Who you are:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, or related field. Experience and/or training/certification may be substituted for education.
- Five years experience in HR operations, employee relations, and manager training programs.
- Experience with benefits administration, compliance, and HR systems management.
- Proven track record in performance management, conflict resolution, and employee coaching.
- Strong project management and adaptability - ability to manage multiple priorities and learn new processes quickly.
- Experience working in lean, scrappy environments - comfortable wearing multiple hats and pivoting based on business needs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to facilitate training and difficult conversations.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to support multiple managers while managing operational responsibilities.
- Proficient with Google Drive, Asana, HRIS, and similar software.
